AT&T now, but a great company. They cared about the end user and made certain service was working and dependable. Management and techs worked as a team to insure this. Upper level was good and cared about all aspects of the company, which was the customer.
Pros
Great place

I see AT&T cutting and cutting, and their long-term plan is unclear to me. I was "outsourced" to IBM with over 1000 others, so had a year to figure out what comes next, but I think AT&T may be in a mode of thinking that cost-cutting is the road to profitablity, which seems misguided at best. There are aspects of the company that are forward-looking, but work in those areas didn't really materialize for those of us who came from legacy parts of the company.

you can learn lots of new technology, and the job is rewarding, you get as much as you put in. managers will push you to make the sell so it is a little bit stressing but if you can deal with stress you would be succesful in this job.

They dont tell you its sales and retention. If you like stress go for it.. the pay is good but not worth the stress. If you have a manager that will work with you then you are good to go.

We were an authorized retailer so thew rules were very relaxed. I hired my friends and we became the number one store in the state and the district. Most fun I've had in my working life.

Typical day was busy, be expected to meet metrics, the people were great, hours for new people weren't the best. When switched to sales, work became harder than expected. Sales goals and leadership expectations changed.
Pros
Free food, free coffee, great co-workers, some great leadership, awesome training
Cons
Sales on the phone isn't for everyone, programs acted up, short breaks, mental health was stigmatized

The people at AT&T are the best. The company has a culture of serving the customer. Interaction between employees was almost always collegial and was focused on getting the job done. (We were social, too, but we made sure to get the job done first.)

From the outside it's a good company. From the inside it's a lot of pressure. Technicians deserve more respect and support. Its a union company, but they will leave you blowing in the wind.No job security two layoffs in the short period of time there.

I worked for At&t for many years. The money and schedule were AMAZING. The culture and morale was absolutely horrible. Management was terrible and lacked support in front line staff

Good benefits, compensation, and work environment. The management team encouraged other opportunities with support to be ready for opportunities. Ongoing training was available also.

Things changed drastically in the 11 years I was there. For the worst. There’s no “coaching” that helps you do your job. “Coachings are in place to fire employees. I’ve watched so many people lose their job that had 1523 years of service. Just because AT&T no longer wanted to pay their salaries and benefits. Don’t have a dentist appointment next week. You’ll be denied time off “based on the needs of the business”. Well if you have more than a manager and 2 sales reps to 30 customers, the store would have coverage. I couldn’t wait to find a new job!

Was a great place to work. Miss working there. Would work there again in a heartbeat. They care about their employees. It feels like your family and going to work is like going home.

Love the folks i work with and work for, but high level executive leadership is a mess. Lots of internal fighting within "silos" with each team looking out only for themselves and their internal metrics. Very bureaucratic monster where work seems like an octopus with every tentacle inserting themselves into nearly every decision. Lots of talk about pushing decisions down, but nothing seems to ever get resolved. Constant threat of layoffs looming over everyone's head.

very progressive and technology focused. Virtual work a big focus over past several years. High degree of change due to core product set evolving and shift to software defined services

This applies to B2B sales roles:
The good: Flexible work environment, work from home, free cell phones and service, free tablet and service, discounts on Direct TV, 401K matching up to 6%, good rates on Health insurance if you're OK with Kaiser, regular raises at the beginning of the year, can expense mileage driving to client sites, broad experience selling a wide variety of products/solutions from speeds and feeds to SaaS/Applications/Consulting that will prime you for better sales jobs.

The Bad: Poor compensation (Especially for the CA Bay Area), leadership will make big changes in commission structure/Account assignment structure/Staff Augmentation every 2-4 years, can make $100K commission in a year and then $20K in commission the next year selling the same amount, advancement very limited to the top 1% of 1% sales results, internal systems and processes are a nightmare, micro management to the level of making you log all daily activities in the CRM system, a lot of non sales related work to do, huge focus on monthly quota with minimal regard for yearly results, poor sales support in mid markets and small business, general telecom pricing for network and mobility decreasing very rapidly, huge focus on selling security against bigger and badder competitors, frequent Sr. Management changes, no budget or expense account for customer rapport building, max 6% raise on base salary a year, $6K of commission plan used to pay for diamond club winners, bad customer support for business accounts that have billing/customer service/technical issues-customer service reps want to

Lots of time working independently with little oversight. Great work for using your hands and being outside in a constantly changing environment. Challenging but well worth it.
