eFoodHandlers ‐ Certifications, Cost, and Reviews

eFoodHandlers provides online training and state-mandated food handling certifications for food handlers, food-service managers and alcohol servers, with special programs available for businesses and schools that provide culinary training. The online learning platform is accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) to provide training for the food-service industry.

eFoodHandlers offers the following courses:

  • Food Safety Training Program – This program is customized to meet the food-handler certification criteria for each of the 50 states and the district of Columbia. Through the online course, students learn the basics of foodborne illnesses and how they spread, proper health and hygiene practices, the importance of temperature control in keeping food safe to serve, how to prevent cross contamination, approved food sources and eFoodHandlers’ Top 10 Safe Food Handling Practices. Those who complete the course receive an ANSI Food Handlers Card, or Food Handlers Certificate, which is good for 3 years.
  • Manager’s Food Safety Course – The Manager’s Food Safety Course is geared toward employees who are charged with overseeing the food-service area and ensuring that safe food handling practices are being implemented. The 8-hour online course covers foodborne illnesses and the sources of foodborne illnesses, safe food handling, managing the flow of food from a professional kitchen, equipment, cleaning best practices, best management and management’s responsibility for safe food handling. Following the course, students can choose to take the Certified Food Protection Exam at a 360 Training Test Facility. To receive the certification, test takers must earn a 65% or higher on the 95-question, closed-book exam.
  • Alcohol Server’s Course – With a Flash and audio presentation, supplemented by video case studies and real-world simulations, alcohol servers can learn how to identify customers who are old enough to order alcoholic beverages, identify patrons who are visibly intoxicated, understand the dangers of overconsuming alcohol and train on how to respond to hard-to-handle, real-life situations.
  • Mobile Food Vending – For those who are operating food trucks and other types of mobile kitchens, eFoodHandler offers a 2-hour online course that covers safe food storage and handling in a small, on-the-go space. Those who complete the course are awarded a certificate or badge to display to their patrons to verify that they have been trained in safe food handling techniques.

The rates for eFoodHandler certificates vary depending on the certification being sought and the requirements of each state. The site does offer price breaks and scholarships for those who are unable to afford the cost of a food-handler certificate. Businesses also can take advantages of eFoodHandler’s training for their employees. The site allows businesses to buy certification courses in bulk for their employees, and businesses also can choose to see analytics from their employees’ exams to help identify areas of food safety that require more training or more focus to keep their kitchens operating safely.

eFoodHandler also offers school-based training programs that allow school students who are preparing for careers in the food service industry to earn their food handler certifications.
